Lawsuit claims LegalZoom is unfair and engages in deceptive business practices, that its website falsely states that customized documents are reviewed for accuracy and reliability.
Nowhere [does LegalZoom] explain that its documents are not the same as those prepared by an attorney and that that its documents are not truly 'customized'. Plaintiffs claim the documents they purchased were flawed and they had to hire an attorney to correct the problems.

LegalZoom has been accused of unfair and deceptive business practices. The plaintiff says that LegalZoom claims to "customize" its documents, but there is no customization other than adding customers' names and identifying personal information.  The plaintiff, an executor of an estate, claims that LegalZoom's website and advertising are premised on the misleading claim that "virtually anyone" can create a valid legal document through LegalZoom, and falsely stated that the "customized" documents would be reviewed for "accuracy and reliability."

"Nowhere in the manual do defendants explain that using LegalZoom is not the same as using an attorney and that its documents are only 'customized' to the extent that the LegalZoom computer program inputs your name and identifying information, but not tailored to your specific circumstances," the complaint states.

Plaintiffs claim the documents purchase from LegalZoom, which included a revocable living trust, a will, and a durable power of attorney, were flawed and this required them to hire an attorney to correct the problems.
